Since New Years #Resolutions are in FULL swing right now, I felt compelled to share with you my BEFORE + AFTER in hopes that it sheds some light on what I’ve learned in my health journey. ⁣
⁣
Yes, you saw that right, my BEFORE is on the left, & my AFTER is on the right. ⁣
⁣
The left photo was 1 day out from my #wbff bikini show back in the summer of 2014, and what you SEE a shredded AF physical body...⁣
⁣
But here’s what you don’t see behind the scenes of the left photo:⁣
⁣
👉🏼The text I sent to my coach saying “ I don’t think I’m ready, look at my lower abs…” (WTH?!)⁣
👉🏼My hormones so imbalanced that I lost my menstrual cycle⁣
👉🏼Not missing a single cardio or weightlifting session in 27 weeks ⁣
👉🏼Missing out on time with loved ones because I had to “stick to the plan”⁣
👉🏼My mental health completely unstable⁣
👉🏼My body gaining body fat back within days after the competition⁣
⁣
Look, I understand discipline + striving to reach your goals, but what I NEED you to get into your mind + heart this year that what you’re seeing on magazine covers or bikini competition photos is a VERY highlight reel or some may even be photoshopped🤯⁣
⁣
Speaking from experience, it’s not MAINTAINABLE, nor should it be something that you should look to for your inspiration this year. ⁣
⁣
On the right, you see a fuller, curvier body that surely doesn’t have those abs anymore, but my goodness am I ALIVE + THRIVING. ⁣
⁣
Here’s what you don’t see behind the scenes of this right photo:⁣
⁣
👉🏼Finally feeling COMFORTABLE in my own skin⁣
👉🏼Restored mensural cycle (hallelujah!) ⁣
👉🏼Taking rest days if I need/want to⁣
👉🏼Hanging out with loved ones + making memories that will last a lifetime! ⁣
👉🏼Truly loving + accepting myself right where I’m at⁣
⁣
So this year, remember LASTING health starts from within + works its way out✨⁣

The fact that Joshua has never ever heard the  sound of my voice still amazes me.⁣⁣⁣

It amazes me because with him I’ve had the deepest conversations I’ve ever had with a person. ⁣⁣⁣

Conversations about life…⁣⁣⁣
our crazy & wild dreams…⁣⁣⁣
our biggest fears…⁣⁣⁣
feelings, failures, triumphs, joy and everything in between. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
All without EVER hearing my voice. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
It’s taught me that communication has far more dimensions than I have even given it credit for. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
It’s so much more than words.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Being married to a deaf man has taught me so much, but one of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my almost 7 years of being together and 4 years of marriage is this: Things that truly come from the heart often never come in the form of words, instead they are shown through actions.⁣⁣⁣

Joshua doesn’t hear my voice…he feels them. ⁣⁣⁣
He doesn’t hear me say “I love you”…he watches my actions say it. ⁣⁣⁣

So excited to trade out my sweaters for swimming suits next week! ☀️🌴Last minute vacation with hubby. ❤️There’s something so exciting about only having to wait a week to leave, while regretting the days I lacked motivation to workout! BUT, that’s life. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Retouch it. ⁣ ⁣ Have cellulite (like 99.9% of humans)? Smooth it out.⁣ ⁣ Want a smaller waist to “accentuate” your curves? Resize It.⁣ ⁣ It’s disgusting, heart wrenching & devastating that we are bombarded with photos of beautiful, flawless people every single day, not only in mainstream media now, but on our very own instagram feeds and what's even more scary is that others are looking at people and asking questions like…⁣ ⁣ “Girl, your waist is so small, what does your diet look like?" ⁣ "How do you get your skin so flawless? Here’s the truth: If you are not taking time to first invest in yourself,  you will have any overflow to help others. ⁣⁣

The contradiction that many people believe about prioritizing themselves first is that they think its selfish...⁣

I would argue that it’s actually the most SELFLESS thing you can do with your life. ⁣
⁣⁣
Think about how much better the relationships in your life are when you are feeling your best emotionally, physically, and mentally. ⁣
⁣
If you’re constantly feeling burnt out, overworked because you’re not paying attention to yourself, your relationships will suffer as a direct result which is ironically the ONE reason why you stopped investing in yourself in the first place. ⁣
⁣⁣
Ultimately what the people you love in your life want is your ENERGY, so if you’re not prioritizing yourself to cultivate and create that positive energy within first, they will suffer no matter how much TIME you think you need with them. ⁣⁣

All that to say: prioritizing yourself to become the best possible version of yourself (mentally, physically, and emotional) is NOT selfish! ⁣⁣

Its the best thing you can do for yourself and everyone around you…so here’s your permission to PRIORITIZE yourself today and everyday so you can naturally serve others in your best self! ⁣⁣

5 things I wish I would have known sooner about food:⁣

1️⃣ Your environment does matter⁣
⁣
The people & environment that you live around everyday do in fact influence you. Don’t believe me? Look up “The Law OF Average”. ⁣
⁣
If you live in a household where food is used as a stress reliever, you will likely struggle with emotional eating. ⁣
⁣
If your environment looks at food as “good” or “bad” you will likely have similar thoughts. ⁣
⁣
Your habits & tendencies tend to be the direct result of who you’re surrounding yourself with. ⁣
⁣
2️⃣ The longer you neglect a negative relationship with food, it only prolongs the situation ⁣
⁣
Neglecting a situation because it's hard or unknown territory never makes it better, it only drags out the process of dealing with it. Amiright?! ⁣
⁣
Sooner or later you will need to face the reality of the negative connotation you have with food - why not start today? ⁣
3️⃣ The FOOD itself is NOT the reason as to why you're not seeing the results you want⁣
⁣
Stop blaming, shunning it ignoring food.⁣
⁣
Also, no ONE food is inherently going to make you gain weight - it’s the AMOUNT of it that is the issue.⁣

5 things I wish I would have known sooner about food:⁣ ⁣ 1️⃣ Your environment does matter⁣ ⁣ The people & environment that you live around everyday do in fact influence you. Don’t believe me? Look up “The Law OF Average”. ⁣ ⁣ If you live in a household where food is used as a stress reliever, you will likely struggle with emotional eating. ⁣ ⁣ If your environment looks at food as “good” or “bad” you will likely have similar thoughts. ⁣ ⁣ Your habits & tendencies tend to be the direct result of who you’re surrounding yourself with. ⁣ ⁣ 2️⃣ The longer you neglect a negative relationship with food, it only prolongs the situation ⁣ ⁣ Neglecting a situation because it's hard or unknown territory never makes it better, it only drags out the process of dealing with it. Amiright?! ⁣ ⁣ Sooner or later you will need to face the reality of the negative connotation you have with food - why not start today? ⁣ 3️⃣ The FOOD itself is NOT the reason as to why you're not seeing the results you want⁣ ⁣ Stop blaming, shunning it ignoring food.⁣ ⁣ Also, no ONE food is inherently going to make you gain weight - it’s the AMOUNT of it that is the issue.⁣ ⁣ Learn to look BEYOND food & start evaluating your mindset and feelings towards it, that's the root of the problem. ⁣ ⁣ 4️⃣ Quit “dieting”, but also quit the "free for all" both of those mentalities are not freedom (IMO) because both will be a vicious cycle⁣ ⁣ Our bodies & minds were not created for extremes. ⁣ ⁣ They are smart, & will always try to go back to finding equilibrium. ⁣ ⁣ Try practicing moderation, it will take you a lot further… ⁣ ⁣ For the last 7 years for me, that’s been macro counting, for others it might not be, & that’s okay - you do you!⁣ ⁣ 5️⃣ The food that we eat or don't eat do not define us as "good" or "bad" people.⁣ ⁣ Eat the foods that YOU prefer & what you see yourself doing LONG-TERM. ⁣ ⁣ Quit hopping on bandwagons because of a documentary or what your best friend is trying. ⁣ ⁣ YOU need to decide what’s right for you, because at the end of the day YOU'RE the one living inside your body for the rest of your life.⁣ ⁣ TAG someone who needs to read this! ♥️🤟🏼 #EmbraceYourReal ...

Today I felt like complete 💩 taking my before pictures. Why? I don’t know. It’s close to my time of the month so maybe that or maybe because I’m coming off my bulking phase but I want to stop 🛑 this right away. Here’s why➡️I am 1 full week into my cut.

Let’s say it again I AM 1 WEEK INTO MY CUT. Just as I tell my clients you must be patient, which I’m not being right now. I stuck to the plan 6 out of 7 days (ate off plan for dinner one day otherwise hit macros) got my workouts and cardio done ✅ basically I did what I needed to do.

Today was the first day of @dalalovesdumbbells and @fitnessshaman 4 week challenge and my legs are smoked #getmelifealert 😂 I’m so excited for the next four weeks because I don’t have to think about programming my workouts and I have someone else kick my ass for me.

Progress is not linear, you won’t always be feeling fire flames but stick to the plan because I promise you the results are worth it 🙌🏼
