Elephants are my FAVORITE animals and I’ve been lucky enough to see them up close and personal five times now!
Unfortunately, my first two encounters were in elephant “sanctuaries” that actually mistreated them. At the time, I was unaware that elephant tourism was as serious of an issue as it is in Thailand and many other Southeast Asian countries. When in Southeast Asia please research the sanctuaries that you intend to visit! If the sanctuary promotes any sort of elephant riding...do not go.
When visiting Chiang Mai specifically, there are five great places for you to choose from:
• The Happy Elephant home
• Elephant Jungle Sanctuary
• Chiang Mai Elephant land
• Elephant Nature Park
• Patara Elephant Farm
I chose to go to the Elephant Jungle Sanctuary and as you can tell from this photo...I was very happy with my decision. 🐘🥰 ...
Wat Samphran - a Buddhist temple in Thailand. This 17-story building has a gigantic dragon sculpture that curls around it, stretching 80 meters tall. The interior of the dragon contains a spiral staircase.
