There is spring in the air but winter in the forecast this week. I have always had a bit of a hard time with the calendar seasons living Alberta. Here, the first day of spring precedes a few more months of winter conditions in the mountains, a tumultuous avalanche season and, depending on our level of unluckiness, a week or two (or three) of spring melt flooding before the nice weather decides to stay for a little while longer. The funny thing is, I don’t remember it this way growing up. I remember my dad plowing show with the Bobcat from our long driveway in late March; my brothers and I building a network of tunnels from the piles of snow left sky high. I remember my parents waking us up in the car at the parking lot for the ski hill before the sun rose and feeling a mix of sun and wind burn turning my face red that only comes with spring skiing. I remember jumping in puddles that, in my mind, were at least twice as big as my six year old mind could comprehend on my way to the bus stop as the snow melted in late May… maybe June. I remember the seemingly endless days of rain, not in terms of flooding but as a welcomed rarity where I grew up - an excuse to stay inside in my pyjamas and build forts and watch movies all day.
⠀ ⠀ ⠀
Happy (belated) first day of spring, perhaps this year I will spend more time searching for spring ski days, puddles to jump in and pyjama days as I wait for more days spent like this one - basking in the late August sun..

#tbt My lousy yoga pose 🧘‍♀️ but who cares ! Check out the view behind me. Kananaskis country is one of my favorite place to go hiking in Alberta Canada . The trails and the drive are absolutely picturesque and it’s not crowded of tourist. But here and there you will encounter grizzly bears 🐻.
