Rather than suppressing your feelings...feel them. ⁣
Feel them in the pit of your stomach or in shoulders or wherever else they lurk waiting to be acknowledged. ⁣
⁣
No one has the right to tell you how to feel, they're YOUR emotions and deserve to be validated. You shouldn't be made to feel ashamed for feeling them. ⁣
⁣
Usually feelings have come to deliver a message to us from within, sit with them, listen and when they're ready to leave... ⁣
⁣
Let them ❤.

Most of us were not taught how to navigate conflict growing up. And often the template we received involved a major breakdown of relationship when disagreements or differences came to the fore, rather than a strengthening of it.
.
Conflict, esp with those we are closest with, is often overwhelming to the nervous system. It’s triggering. Both because it’s inherently stressful and because most of us have a lifetime of bad experiences where conflict didn’t end well.
.
These are great ideas of what to do when we start to feel overwhelmed during a heated conversation with our partner.
.
The reason I like this list so much is because it demonstrates that it’s possible to maintain our own integrity and take care of our needs while simultaneously being respectful of our partner and our relationship.

childhood trauma has such devastating long lasting effects, it needs to be taken seriously. If someone has trauma in their past they absolutely need help in processing it, or the trauma will have negative impact on their well-being forever. Everyone's trauma is valid, everyone's trauma deserves to be treated! 🌸

~04/05/19 "I have never met a strong person with an easy past." A quote that resonates with me so much. Every single strong person I know in my life has not had an easy past. - So I remind myself this because we often empathise with the people falling apart in front of us (we should) but those who seem strong and holding it all together we think they're okay. - When a lot of the time those strongest people are battling a past you wouldn't even be able to imagine. ❤ ...

Image from @crazyheadcomics - Just a little post to say that I am so proud of you all for continuing to fight even though you are so close to giving up.
-
Battling trauma every day is hard and it's totally understandable that it gets too much sometimes.
-
You are extremely strong individuals for continuing to fight.
-
It's hard and I just want to acknowledge your strength as well as your suffering.
-
Please hold on things will get easier and you will heal from this.
-
Love @cptsd_support.

Although we can feel really supported by the mental health content on instagram, it does not and never can replace therapy. Just like reading about the benefits of yoga can't replace actually DOING yoga... reading therapeutic content cannot heal trauma. It can definitely start the process, provide relief, affirmation, and support.
.
.
But the ability to engage and heal trauma must happen on the neurobiological level, which is accessed through therapy, therapeutic movement, trauma-informed yoga, and other mental-emotional embodied therapies.
.
.
It is truly unfortunate that accessibility to therapy in 2019 is still so limited and difficult to come by. This is why many therapists (myself included) usually have a few scholarship positions on their caseload to take on clients who can only afford a significantly lower fee.
.
.
LOW FEE THERAPY RESOURCES:
.
Check out your local universities/colleges that have counselling or social work or clinical psychology programs. Usually they will have a student clinic where the public can access low fee and sliding scale therapy.
.
Call your local government (county/city) social services programs to see if you qualify for therapy based on your income level or disability status.
.
FOR PEOPLE IN BRITISH COLUMBIA:
.
If you have First Nations heritage, contact your local First Nations band for info on counselling funding. In British Columbia check out First Nations Health Authority @fnha
.
Check out WorkBC for access to therapy if you have a history of trauma and have any issues affecting your ability to work @workbckelowna @workbcvernon
.
FOR PEOPLE IN KELOWNA:
.
Additionally @thirdspacecharity @thirdspacemind is an amazing local resource in Kelowna, BC that offers low fee and free therapy to those with limited financial resources and in need of support.
.
The Kelowna Community Health Centre offers free walk-in counselling on 505 Doyle Ave, 2nd Floor. You won't get the same therapist every time, but you do get a free session with a licensed therapist and you get connected to other resources you may need (including group therapy!)..

Go on over to @daniachebib for the rest of this insightful post. Many people start healing the outside and work their way inward. It's okay to heal with supplements and diet, it's okay to check in with a trained therapist to see if you have any old stuff creating disharmonies in your system, too. If you have had trauma, you will have health issues at some point, and that point is different for everyone. It's the point your nervous system can't take anymore. Listen to your body before it has to get sick to get your attention.

Sometimes I just want to run away to the beach... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The beach is so healing for me... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I realised my desire to run away was, in fact, my gut telling me to get out, sadly I ignored it... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
