Instagram is a highlight reel & it's natural to want to highlight the best parts of our lives. But to quote myself when I started posting about my pregnancy, I don't want to be part of the false narrative that makes motherhood look like a perfectly curated breeze, so here's my truth.

Even though I rationally know IG isn't real life, and I, too, have only posted happy pictures of my baby thus far, I still sometimes scroll through my feed & feel bad about myself. Yesterday I cried when I saw a mother effortlessly breastfeeding her baby. Daily I see moms w/smiling newborns talking about how much they're loving their new role...the snuggles, their little buddy who accompanies them everywhere, etc. And I sit there stuck at home w/my beautiful but discontented baby who is only happy & smiling for a small portion of the day, which means I'm only happy & smiling for a small portion of the day. I scroll past adorably styled monthly milestone photos & can only assume these mothers are drugging their babies to get them to sit on their own without crying...that, or am I a bad mom?

My baby cries. And whines&fusses. A lot. We've tried acid reflux meds&gas drops; had her lip&tongue tie fixed; been to the lactation consultant, chiropractor & craniosacral therapist; I took a class abt baby sleep; I don't eat dairy, soy, or gluten; over the past 6 weeks I've spent more time researching than I have sleeping, etc, etc, etc. And while some of these have made small differences, I still walk on eggshells trying not to set her off.

I already know what you're going to say: you're not a bad mom. Rational-me knows that, but the moments of feeling rational when you're sleep-and-self-care deprived are few & far between. So just know that you can tell a new mom of a screaming baby she's doing everything right, but until her baby is content & happy, she probably won't be either. It's just the way we're wired.

If you're the mom of a crying baby & you scroll through IG feeling defeated, you're not alone. I'm here too, caught in a cycle of scrambling to figure out what's wrong w/my baby or accepting that maybe this is just who she is...all while trying not to lose my flippin' mind.🙃.

Fennel is known to relax the intestines, relieve gas and alleviate general discomfort in the digestive tract. It is also acts as a mild laxative. These benefits make it an excellent choice for fussy, colicky, and gassy babies. 👶🏻👶🏻👶🏻 Fennel tea is simple to make, just add 1 teaspoon of whole fennel seeds to 8 ounces of boiling water. Cover and steep for 30 minutes. Strain. ☕️☕️☕️
A breastfeeding mother can drink this tea and pass along the benefits through her milk (an added benefit is that fennel also promotes lactation). It may also be added to a bottle of breast milk, formula, or water and given to the baby. This horse has colic and we are emptying the stomach. A nasogastric tube is inserted through the nose , the oesophagus into the stomach. A horse has a small stomach and canot throw up. In case of small intestinal obstruction, the intestinal fluids will accumulate and flow back in the stomach. This fluid, what we call reflux will expand the stomach until it tears! There’s nothing link the ongoing distress, worry and despair that comes with #babyreflux to quickly remove the dreams of parenting joy from our lives. 
Yet today, on this #internationaldayofhappiness it is vital that we learn to look within and find that rainbow of joy. 
Take just a moment to reframe your baby’s struggles, see past the reflux, know that behind it is the most amazing and precious human being, a creation of joy, allow yourself to did your internal spring of happiness. 
This is a practice you can do for a moment every day. Because staying in good #mentalhealth is not automatic. Just like being fit or healthy does not happen on its own. They all take practice and dedication to yourself. 
If you stop practicing your chosen approach for physical health (e.g. healthy diet and exercise), your physical health will decline. The very same goes for your mental health. 
No matter what you are going through, find a moment to recognise the positive, focus on something that brings you #happiness. 
Your happiness comes from within. Each and every time. It is all about how you choose to respond to everything. Respond with anger and rage it will bring you down. Respond with thanks and grace and you will feel calmer and happier. Even with the destructive lack of sleep you may be experiencing. Reframe this every morning... be thankful that you got just the right about of sleep to do what you need to do today. And then take it easy for the day. 
Happiness comes from within. Choose it everyday,  it just today. Use today as a springboard for your happiness practice.
