Daily dietary fiber consumption is important because it helps promote regular bowel movements, helps control blood sugar, aids in satiation (fullness), optimizes gut + immune health (did you know they are connected 😉), and reduces risk for cardiovascular related complications.

Fibers is found exclusively in the plant kingdom and is made up of two types:

1️⃣ Soluble fiber- dissolves in water and becomes gel-like.
2️⃣ Insoluble- non-digestible and moves through your colon intact.

Both soluble and insoluble fiber are important for digestion!

Soluble fiber helps you feel full for longer after you eat by slowing digestion.

It does this by slowing down the rate at which nutrients are broken down and absorbed, including carbs, so that they don’t drastically raise your blood sugar. Therefore, it helps stabilize post-prandial blood sugar levels and prevent blood sugar spikes.

Soluble fiber also prevents some dietary cholesterol from being broken down and digested in addition to lowering ones risks of developing heart disease and hypertension.

Insoluble fiber on the other hand (found highest in vegetables, legumes, beans and some grains) helps bind water, causing an increase in fecal volume (bulk) and faster transit time = more frequent stools.

In addition, insoluble fiber is fermented by the bacteria in our gut into short chain fatty acids, promoting the growth of good bacteria. This is more than dam right African family, you have to be able to put your health in your own hands, you have to be able to start coking alkaline foods and making your herbal tea for yourself, you have to walk alone because know can tell how you feel inside and what is happening to your body.

Theres lots of strategies you can use to help littles poop, and foods that can help move things along. Many "P" foods are believed to help soften stool and stimulate bowel motions, like pears, plums, peaches, prunes, pumpkin, and pineapple. Other dried fruits like raisins and dried apricots can also help! And with all that extra fibre , its important to encourage hydration (preferably with water, but I'm adding watermelon too for a yummy and hydrating treat). Fats are also important for bowel management - I'm adding avocado and an extra drizzle of olive oil to dinner tonight. Think of it like a dietary "lubricant" to let it all sliiiide out 🤣 .
