GOALS

Following on from my Consistency and Balance post the other day. I wanted to talk about goal setting.

It is impossible to build consistency if you do not have clear goals. It is important to think long and hard about what you want so that you are not changing your mind every couple of weeks on your direction.

When I take on new clients, we look for the long term goals and built short term goals inline with the long term goal.

For example if the goal is building leg strength and hypertrophy, the programme will be focused around that for usually a minimum of 16 weeks. On top of that there will be mini blocks within cycles with frequent testing to 1) make sure we are heading in the right direction and 2) keep motivation of the client high as they can see results.

If two weeks in to a programme, my client tells me they are going on holiday in 3 week and they want to cut body fat. My simple answer would be no... Because we are in a calorie surplus to increase muscle mass to build muscle in line with your long term goal. If you decide to drop calories to in-turn drop body fat and slow the muscle gaining process down, that is sabotaging the long term goal.

This is a prime example of someone who is not keeping their long term goal in mind, who is being INCONSISTENT with their direction which will result in them not reaching that end goal.

Have a plan. Stick to the plan. And be consistent at working towards the end goal.
