A weekend shooting the coast of north Devon has got me feeling all reinvigorated and ready to point a camera at things. Fresh new content soon maybe? 😬
For now, this is a newly processed shot from a north Wales trip in autumn 2017. Just as the light broke through, so did the rain. But before I hastily crammed all of my gear into a bag I caught the first streaks of rainfall as they dropped into the gorge. ...
A wild and windy walk up Cadair Idris on Monday ...
And relax.. Walking down the quiet back lanes of Pembrokeshire 🐾 Just us 💕 stopping by the fields you can just about see Lions Rock in the distance... One of my planned hikes next week.. But now it's just a chilled walk ♥️ ...
Spring dips are getting easier in the sunshine. I’ve had a few messages asking what I wear for outdoor swimming, so here goes.
Typically I bring a swimming costume - if it’s chilly (spring, winter, autumn) I wear a long sleeve zip-up made from rash-vest-type material, made by Finisterre. It keeps a bit of chill off my core. In summer, typically a bikini or regular swimsuit. I usually swim with Rob or with girlfriends, and we usually hike or run into a mountain lake. If no-one’s around we’ll leave the swimwear in the rucksack and go naked.
Because I’ve been finding it difficult to get back into Welsh swimming lately, I wore a thin (2mm) legless wetsuit on my last swim (pictured) to give me confidence. If I was planning a particularly long swim in colder temperatures I’d wear a full length swimming wetsuit. Mine is from Patagonia, made from a sustainable rubber rather than neoprene, which isn’t very eco-friendly.
The problem with wetsuits though, is that along with numbing the cold they also numbs the benefits - you feel restricted rather than free, separate from the elements rather than connected, and you don’t get the same rosy glow afterwards. Sometimes it’s sensible to wear one though.
Lastly, I take a luxurious Finisterre towelling robie if we’re not hiking or running very far to a lake and it’s quite cold. If I’m going far, or it’s sunny, I’ll usually just take a travel towel. What do you wear for outdoor swimming?
