#REALTALK// as everyone around me prepares to go out and get loose on a Friday night, I’m trying to be as confident as I can in my decision to (pretty much always) stay in. .

For a people pleaser that hasn’t quite been able to let go of caring about what people think of me, this is harder than it seems. It’s hard to do, it’s hard to justify and it’s hard to watch everyone around me “move forward” when I’m seemingly standing still. . Damn you, #lyme.

Even opening social media can’t take my mind off of it - in between the support groups and meme pages I follow I always seem to find the wedding and baby and engagement photos that my friends keep posting. I want to be happy for them, but it’s a constant reminder of where my life ISNT going right now.

How do you guys deal with this? What do you tell yourself to stay positive? I’m wondering if I need to adjust my “life goals” to something more realistic or if I just need to stay hopeful and believe that those things will come to me, too.

——————— On a typical day I try to not think about the fact that I’m sick. I try to just go about my day doing as much as I’m able without throwing myself into a flare. May (MECFS Awareness month) is difficult because it forces me to think about how this illness affects my life every day, but I’m taking it day by day. The most difficult? Feeling like a burden in every direction. I don’t get stuck there anymore, now I remind myself I’m doing my best and this illness isn’t my fault, but still it comes in waves.

The last few weeks have been really busy by my standards - appointments, errands, social stuff... and there's a few more things coming up. It's just how it goes... life happens, but my goodness, I am tired and my brain is fried. It's hard to describe the exhaustion. I know my fellow neurodivergents and spoonies (and neurodivergent spoonies 😁) will get it. While I'm getting better at setting boundaries, there's still a lot of guilt over the fatigue. Other people can do all this stuff and so much more without getting this tired... but I'm not other people, so I have to keep reminding myself. I haven't been the same since my burnout last year. I have to be a lot more careful now to avoid overloads and meltdowns.

Do not watch tv or work in your bedroom. Its needs to be a sacred, restful environment. Shades of blue, lavender and grey are good for bedrooms as they are calming colours and thought to aid sleep.
Make sure your sleeping environment is comfortable: Not too hot, cold, noisy or bright. You can get black out blinds and curtains to help or a sleep mask for a cheaper option. Use ear plugs if need be or cordless ear phones to listen to soothing music
Avoid clock watching through the night. The time will not change no matter how many times you look at that clock. All this will do is wind you up into more of a frenzy about the fact that you are not asleep. Accept and relax
With insomnia it is usually recommended that we avoid napping during the day. However, with conditions such as fibromyalgia and ME it can be helpful to have a couple of 20 minute rests during the day but do not sleep for hours!
Accept. Pace. Embrace. Talk. Plan.  STOPP. Eat Healthily. Identify Allergies. Cook Safely. Stop Alcohol. Rest.
