You’ve really got this whole gig-bag thing figured out, @ijasonjames.

Been on the hunt for my soul mate 60s Strat for a few years now. I know what I want and I know what I need, and when you’re ready to drop the equivalent of a brand new sedan on a guitar, there is no compromising — ergo, no luck finding her so far. But watching Mick and Dan pick around in a vintage guitar boutique in Friday’s episode of @that_pedal_show drove me so nuts that halfway through the Fender movement I stormed off and bought a @prsguitars Silver Sky. Yes, I’m obviously a JM fan, but it’s not the signature that sells me on it. It’s the idea of a consistently-built, well set-up single coil guitar modeled after a vintage instrument that was built smack in the middle of the era that I’m hunting for. What I’m after from this period playability-wise is primarily the neck profile — my hands are on the bigger side and if I don’t have enough neck meat to anchor it all, my hands can get sore and tired pretty quick. As far as I know, Number One had a late ‘62 veneer neck, and my main SRV Strat profile is perfect — I’ve gone through 20+ electric guitars over the years and that one survived the storm when I whittled down to three in 2015.
Haven’t had a chance to plug it in and this is already wordy, so initial thoughts on just the feel of the PRS and some comparison to the SRV that’s been my main for 15+ years:

First of all, to get it out of the way, when I first saw these things I thought they were ugly as shit. Now... well, I still do, just a little less. Anyway, first thing I noticed in holding it was that the control panel felt a bit cramped. Part of it was that the trem bar is righty instead of lefty like the SRV — which I really prefer because it’s easier to grab and easier to keep out of my way with the bar on top. But even with the bar out it felt sort of like the seat was a notch too close to the wheel. Pulled out a tape measure and it turns out when the selector switch is in the neck position on the Strat, it’s about 2 3/16 away from the top string. On the SS it’s 2 1/16. May be a weird thing to bother me, but the picking area is like the dance floor to me, and I’m so used to having that space that it’s one thing I’ll have to get used to, oddly enough..
