is written & directed by Jordan Peele.
The story tells a family of 4 trying to have a relaxing vacation in their beach house in Santa Cruz. However, their vacation is cut short when they see a group of 4 people, dressed in red jumpsuits, shows up outside of their house and they reveal that they’re doppelgangers of the family.
This movie is fucking awesome. Peele’s previous film was already a creepy and yet goddamn entertaining movie and so coming off of that, there’s gotta be so much pressure to what he’ll do next. Fortunately, I’m glad to say that he’s successfully maintained his hype.
Compared to , is more of a pure horror film with a lot of social commentary, brutal kills and an incredible score.
The reason why it stands out in its genre is that can be interpreted in so many different ways. There’re a lot of elements that are so ambiguous. So let me tell you this, is certainly not a one-time viewing! This is a film you’re gonna have to watch multiple times to appreciate more and get answers and I really love movies like this because these kinds of movies are often masterpieces.
Even purely from a filmmaking standpoint, is really well-rounded. Lupita Nyong’o is so goddamn good and now I’m just concerned about her ended up like Toni Collette last year, having an excellent performance but getting snubbed during the Awards season.
Really everyone in this film is terrific. Among the supporting cast, Winston Duke is the one who impressed me the most. I mean he has to be scared, act scary, while also being really funny and he pulls it off! In this film, the comedy really worked. I love how the comedy is interwoven throughout every intense scene.
The story, the characters, the plot, the cinematography, the score and the directing ; all of them are so insane and it turns out for me that is an amalgamation of many things I love.
Score: A +
