TIME TO REFLECT. It’s over 2 weeks now since @manchestermarathon and I’ve had some time to look back at my race day experience. Most importantly, I’m still not disappointed that I missed my sub-3hr target. But I am making some changes.
•
Long story short, both physically and mentally, I don’t think I was ready for the last 10 miles of the race. I managed to keep target pace until that point, but after that I was just exhausted. Every step was a struggle. My mid-race target quickly changed to sub-3:05... then sub-3:10... and eventually sub-3:15.
•
I still got a PB so I’m chuffed to bits, but I’ve also learnt a LOT. Training is important but the experience gained by actually running marathons is equally valuable, when the time eventually comes during the race to dig deep. I need a lot more of that experience before I try doing sub-3hr again.
•
So my next few marathon attempts are going to adopt a very different strategy, to help me build my mental toughness for those last 10 miles. I’ll be aiming to chip away at my PB gradually. Perhaps I’ll try to do sub-3:10 next time. Then once I hit that, I’ll try and get closer to 3:05. The aim will be to run at a pace that I can hold for the whole distance, without falling off a proverbial cliff. That’ll then become my benchmark. Something to move forward from.

Even when we miss our targets, it’s important to take something positive from it. I’ll always be grateful for the experience I gained at Manchester. And I know that next time I do a marathon (whenever that is), that I’ll be mentally stronger than I was this time.

I’m also reminding myself never to give up: I still have a goal to eventually smash. And I’m still determined, one day, to do it 😊💪🏼

Mimo że w tygodniu wybiegane 82 kilometry w tym trzy mocne treningi to zawody zaliczamy do udanych 5,71 km = 22:41 /// 3:58min/km . Teraz kolejny ciężki treningowo tydzień , a w tak jak w cytacie - NIE MA ŻE BOLI .

I decided to make a change my senior year in high school which ended up being a decision that has changed my life since. ⁣
▪️250 lbs to a 2:45 marathon⁣
▪️Top 1% in Boston Marathon⁣
▪️654 out of 26632⁣
▪️6th overall from Tennessee⁣
⁣
I probably couldn't even run a mile back in 2013. The funny thing is, I had no idea how unhealthy I actually was until I started adapting to a better lifestyle. ⁣
⁣
I remember when I started to lose the weight I would hop on the treadmill and run 1-2 miles at a 11 minute pace per mile. Fast forward to today, I was able to hold a 6:17 pace per mile in Boston. ⁣
⁣
My main takeaway- put the work in and in time.... progress will come. I'm excited to see where this running journey takes me..
