#mcrhalf done! Wasn't going for a time today. A race a week after doing a marathon is perhaps not the best idea in the world, but I didn't need to prove myself I know I can run sub 90. It's actually the first time I've run a race and not set a new best. 1:32:07 is a perfectly acceptable time and 22 minutes faster than last year's race!

Edit: the results now say 1:32:04. I've got 3 seconds quicker after the race!.

#throwback to Manchester Half Marathon 2016 - passing the phenomenon that is Graham Green around 10 miles in. To this day, it‘s my favourite race I’ve ever done and will definitely aim to return in 2019 💪🏻

I went into that race chasing a sub-75, thinking that everything needed to be perfect to scrape under the barrier. The weather was far from ideal with constant heavy rain and a headwind on the way out. Somehow I executed the perfectly-paced race, with just 11 seconds separating my fastest and slowest miles, and cruised to a huge NINE minute PB in 73:33! 🏃🏻‍♂️

Two years on, multiple injuries later and now with a personal best just 13 seconds quicker, I’m preparing to have another crack at the distance at the start of 2019. The plan is to enter a half during the early part of marathon build-up and attempt to shave a chunk off that PB. I like to think there’s another two or three minutes in the tank at least 🤔⏱

GREAT MANCHESTER RUN 🏃‍♀️ || I visited Manchester over the weekend to run the @great_run Half Marathon. It was a fantastic experience, made better by doing it alongside the rest of the @specialk_uk #poweringyou Team! Like any challenge, it is not only the day itself, but the process that leads up to the event that you take fondness from. The month(s) leading up to the race, we got together to train in London with @challengesophie , and visit the sights of the city. Moreover, we frequently spoke before the event to share our own experiences/ideas to help one another across the line. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ You may recall, that I entered Sophie’s competition and ended up winning a place. Once I knew I would be attending, I realised that IG was a great platform to lead by example and inspire others to put themselves forward for a challenge. I hope you are encouraged by what a fantastic experience this has been. What I believe is best for us to take from this is to avoid the “little voice” in our heads telling us to not complete something. What a fab day pacing 1:55 at the @mcrhalf so many people made it under the 1:55 mark in an epic finish.

It was so nice to help people hit their goals many of whom were raising money for victims at the @arianagrande concert attack, the bee logo & bee costume prevalent throughout all parts of the race & it was awesome.

The reality of racing sometimes.

Not every race is a PB. Not every race clicks. Today I took a big gamble and went with a very quick group. 5:01 first mile was too quick for me and 5:06 second and third mile didn’t help much either. By 5K the group started to pull away.
.
It was about to be a long 10 miles running alone in the rain for me. But it’s great practice for my mental strength. I felt awful. I had gone way past my lactate threshold turnpoint and It felt like I was running through sand.
.
I wanted to stop but I promised myself I’d run brave. That I’d dig in. So I kept grafting. No rhythm. No flow. Just keep your legs moving until you get to the finish.
.
All alone, battling the part of me desperate to slow down and give up. But I didn’t. I stuck at it. I wasn’t running at PB pace but I was working just as hard. That’s what happens when you blow up.
.
A big smile on my face as I saw the finish gantry was replaced with disbelief as the runner I had been reeling in for the last mile dropped to the ground 200m out. Not again, I thought. I helped him up. I could tell he’d be ok if I could just convince him to get running again. So as his slow jog progressed to a run, I wished him luck and sprinted off, just missing the the sub 71 barrier. But who cares. He finished. We hugged. Job done.

Today I gave a future goal a shot. I took a swing and I missed. And tomorrow I start working towards that future goal. Because next year I’m going to hit it out of the park.
