“You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone.”
.
Why is this so true for humans? Whether it’s our relationships, our youth, our health... or the health of our planet 🌍 - why do we have the tendency to only truly value something when we have lost it?
.
Can we learn from this before it’s too late?
.
Yesterday I made time to appreciate a beautiful and so very precious forest, knowing that all around the world, forests that have taken thousands (or millions) of years to mature are being burnt to the ground in a matter of hours 🔥🌳💔😢
.
Human lifespans are over in a blink when compared to trees. This is probably why we find it difficult to truly appreciate how amazing these beautiful, slow-growing giants are: as hosts of incredible ecosystems, as suppliers of vital oxygen, as soil enhancers, as natural flood defences, as microclimate providers, as the source of rain... there are countless reasons for us to value trees 🌳🌲🌴 - rather than just see them as a resource to chop down for short term gain 💰
.
Can we learn to value what we have left and stop the destruction before it’s too late?
.
Can we learn to live our lives in a way that respects and protects nature so we leave it thriving for our children, and their children?
.
Can we see that relationships, experiences (often involving nature) and community - not money and materialism - are what make us happy?
.
How can we shift our lifestyles to pursue the right things and tread more lightly on the earth?
.
These are the crucial questions of our times. I hope we find the answers in time 💚🌳💚🌳💚🌳

✺ I’m having a bit of a Caturday with my lil familiar today ~ although I’m sure my 3 wildlings will make sure I don’t spend too much time relaxing 😉
•
The winner of my Giveaway has been announced in my stories last night & I just wanted to thank you all so much for entering. The comments regarding the medicine of the Wolf & what that meant to you were so amazing to read ~ & I found so many truly touching. And brimming with truth 🐺🖤
•
And for those local I will be at the @sunshinecoastcollectivemarkets on Sunday 💜

I’ll bet..

I’ll bet. ...

I believe in Mamma Earth.
⠀
She is strong, powerful and intentional. She enjoys balance and knows how to set things right when they get out of balance - even if we don’t enjoy the outcome of that sometimes.
⠀
I don’t believe she is weak and needs protecting, she isn’t a damsel in distress. I believe we need to work along side her like the earth warriors we are. This is our home. This is where we live. We need to have respect for ourselves and in return we will have respect for the planet that gives us life. ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fight for what you believe in, for whatever you believe makes the most change. ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Trust in the power of Mother Nature, ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀ she knows what she's doing. 🌝

According to Zulu folklore, enormous and inconsolable grief led to the cheetah’s distinct tear marks. A lazy hunter wanted to find a quicker and less arduous way of catching prey. After watching a mother cheetah catch a springbok in record time for her 3 cubs, he decided that that was the answer. He tracked down her cubs and stole all three! He would train them to hunt for him and him alone.⁣
⁣
The mother cheetah looked for days for her cubs, crying and crying. She could not find them. Her tears created dark tracks all along her nose, to show everyone in the world how grief-stricken she was. An elder in the hunter’s village realized what happened when he heard the cries from the cubs. They were crying for their mother! Dark tracks stained their sad little faces. The elder took all three of them back to their mother – all their tears stopped, but unfortunately the stains were forever. ⁣

I want to disrupt capitalism by encouraging people to boycott fast fashion. I’ve been working within the specialism of natural fabric dyeing for the past 8 years with the aim of slowing consumerism, substituting fossil fuel fabrics and dyes for plant derived alternatives and by educating people about make do and mend crafts.
🌍
Not that cotton is the solution! The production of a single cotton T shirt consumes 2700 litres of water, not only contributing to climate change but polluting the environment with gallons of toxic pesticides. The world’s 4th largest lake dried up due to cotton production. (Google the Aral Sea or watch Fashion’s Dirty Secrets.) 🌍
The fast fashion industry is responsible for the Rana Plaza disaster that killed over 1000 slave-labour workers (mostly women) and yet this callous destruction is funded by westerners, sold their bargains for pennies, promoted by brainwashingly glamorous advertising campaigns. We need to cut this insanity off at the roots by either reducing or stopping buying new clothing. 🌍
If everyone revived just one T shirt rather than supporting this ecocidal system, the planet-restoring cumulative effects would be huge. We would also send a clear message to the fashion industry that we demand ethical production methods. Your clothing can be a walking work of artivism. 🌍

Of course, one edits the sounds one hears. #birdsong stands out and I can't hear the fly land and suck nectar. I listen to recordings and have tried on the phone. A tree can make a 'PLICK CLICK' sound in a drought. #artphotography  #thegreatoutdoors

Take some more steps and turn right to see the same plants from yesterday from a different angle. I can never get bored of this view of the garden. It feels so exotic even after all these years.

On the left there is a Plumeria covered in mosses and epiphytes and surrounded by Tradescantia. These plants are very pushy and can over take whole areas not allowing anything else to grow but if they are planted on right spot they can also live in harmony with others. Here they try to take over the path but are not being too invasive on the plants on the other side
