The Five Domains of Post-Traumatic Growth.

The Five Domains of Post-Traumatic Growth ...

The joy of revealing true beauty.

Claudia is one of the two co-founders of the Pantarei Approach. “The Pantarei Approach has shown me what it is that enables us to have faith, strength and the ability to handle the challenges we face in life. It has shown me what it is that empowers us to bring us more health, inner balance, growth, healing and learning. I believe that in each of us there is a treasure; a true beauty, that when embraced, can grow and become a star showing us the way.

I’m tremendously grateful that through practicing and teaching the Pantarei Approach, I’m able to give back to the world, and to contribute to our ability to live in harmony with ourselves and our surroundings”.

Been thinking and learning a lot about developmental trauma versus traumatic wounds in adulthood and the difference of impact. It is so important that clinicians and clients understand the difference, mainly because treating developmental trauma AKA CPTSD means going deep beneath the surface of symptoms and digging into belief systems that were formed during traumatic attachment. Beliefs like “I am not worthy” and “everything isn’t going to be ok” and “my feelings aren’t valid”. Those form in early childhood when caretakers disrupt the natural flow of identity formation with trauma and abuse. We grow up learning the world is not for us when we are not loved and cuddled and praised. The body is a beautiful way to unearth beliefs we may not even know we have! This can be through posture work, noticing our posture and walk and trying other ways of sitting and moving through the world. Or even eye contact is way more accessible! Practicing eye contact once it feels safe with the therapist and feeling what it is like to have someone maintain eye contact back at you and with love 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕For traumatic wounds from later in life we can process trauma that feels too painful to talk about or remember through body sensations, allowing the body to move itself and moving through energy that was trapped during the trauma, getting us out of the survival response that never got to complete its cycle. #traumarecovery #cptsd #ptsd #healingfromtrauma #somaticwitch #somatictherapy #sensorimotorpsychotherapy #somaticexperiencing.

I get asked a lot about my business strategy, my *vision*, and what I “want out of life.” People ask why I'm not more aggressive or intentional in growing my brand; why I'm not more focused on finding a romantic partner🕵🏼‍♀️; and why I resist making goals or five-year plans 📝.
.
This is why☝🏻🤗. Also I like to sleep in 🤷🏼‍♀️. .
.
Seekers, don’t fall victim to materialistic cultural narratives that cause you to miss or resent your life – in pursuit of something that will bring you fleeting happiness ✋🏻. One of my fav Alan Watts quotes is “Enlightenment is wherever you are, provided you don’t object to it” (or as I like to say, life isn’t about arrival; it’s about awareness 💫). While they aren’t mutually exclusive, the second list is far more likely to bring you consistent peace than the first 🥰.
.
Instead of focusing on “the hustle” or checking that next box as you rush through life, put your energy into connection, meaning, being, and getting to really know and love yourself 💗. Remember those next five years (or next five days) are *never* guaranteed ✋🏻. And try to pay attention to this moment with curiosity and presence... we don't get it back 😘. #megsoapboxes.

Mrs. Lloyd from second grade is a close second tho ✋🏻😜 . Despite a lot of BS messages out there in the self-help world, there are no "bad" emotions – there are only unhelpful reactions to strong emotions, caused by ignorance, avoidance, and numbing. The cure for the pain is in the pain – and so is the wisdom 💫. Go toward it. You are stronger than you know 💪🏻😘💕#inthistogether #megwrites ...

Self Care Sunday! REMINDER: (to self and everyone else 😌) self care is not just the commodified version we’re currently being sold, i.e. bath bombs, face masks, pedicures, chocolate, etc. .
Self-Care is also about responsibility and accountability, which comes from our adult self. We feel better when we stick to hygiene routines, keep our environment tidy, handle those pressing “to-do” items, keep our commitments to work and relationships, knock out that homework assignment, and do our best to stay on top of our responsibilities even when we’d rather do literally ANYTHING else. This clears up all that mental space that is bogged down by the anxiety that procrastination and avoidance inevitably brings. We don’t have to do it all at once either, because even small actions bring a sense of relief and accomplishment. Then we can take that hot bath or get that manicure and actually lean into it and fully relax. 🌟
.
NOTE: There will be days that we simply just can’t, especially for folks with chronic illness, different abilities, multiple jobs, single parents etc. This post is meant to be a reframing of self care, and doing our best is always good enough.

The US department of veterans affairs recommends three types of therapy for treating PTSD: ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
1: Prolonged Exposure, a CBT approach, involves the telling and retelling of detailed traumatic experiences, sometimes writing about the event over and over for homework, and facing one’s fears of real life triggers with the intent of desensitizing the client. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
2: Cognitive Processing Therapy, another CBT approach, focuses solely on reframing negative thoughts about the traumatic experiences through talking and written assignments. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
3: EMDR, uses bilateral stimulation of eyes and body to help the brain process traumatic memories that have not been fully integrated. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
The first two approaches work mainly on the level of the cortex, completely ignore the body and disregard our current understanding of the neurophysiology of trauma. I have watched videos of veterans walking out of Prolonged Exposure sessions because they were completely overwhelmed, way outside their window of tolerance, and their therapists had no intention of helping them contain, ground, or regulate their nervous systems while recalling traumatic events. It honestly makes my skin crawl. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
I heard Stephen Porges, who developed the Polyvagal theory, say that what is truly important in trauma therapy is not knowing all the details of a traumatic event, but to know how the body responded to that event. ⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
Recounting the details of a story over and over is like going back in time, following the same path that the trauma took us on, which without the right support can be retraumatizing.⁣
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣
While there are times when cognitive work is helpful and important, we should not ignore the role of the nervous system. What the body is still trying to do now gives us clues about what wasn’t able to be completed back then. When we follow the body, we follow the roadmap to healing..

Those who suffer from trauma carry shame.....from why can’t I “get over it”, to why did this happen to me, to why couldn’t I stop it. They don’t need any extra shame. External shaming prolongs the healing process and makes the already unbearable much worse. Let’s stand up and work as a community to stomp out the stigma of trauma. Let’s work together to help others heal. Let’s work together to heal depression and anxiety. Let’s work together to lower the suicide rate. We all have behavioural patterns where we resist certain things - for some of us it’s taking care of the budget, picking up the phone when it rings, visiting the dentist, the discomfort of an emotional experience, or it can be the broader resistance to change.
.
When we do resist, it takes a lot of energy and we disconnect from parts of ourselves. Over time, resisting what is can begin to cause symptoms of anxiety or depression.
.
If we softly open our eyes and bring our attention to these things, we might see that there is another option than resisting.

What would happen if you stopped running from the stress in your life 🏃🏼‍♀️and chose to be present and feel the sensations instead? 🧘🏻‍♀️ It’s been said that emotions will discharge in a very short time if you simply feel them WITHOUT getting distracted by stories that defend the fact that you feel in the first place. 🤼‍♀️ This is the power of accepting what is. Discharging some of an emotion’s energy does not mean you will no longer have that emotion. Rather, it simply means that you reduce the level of distress experienced when you come across the emotion again. ❌🤼‍♀️ It’s not perfect, but over time the effects are accumulative. Keep feeling! You just might find that your increased awareness of sensation increases your tolerance of stress. Need support to find the practices that work for you?
