We all like to get lost in our own problems and in our own heads, so much that we hurt the people close to us. ⁣
⁣
We retreat into our own pain and ignore the people around us who care about us. ⁣
⁣
We sometimes even hide behind self care and boundaries as a way of shutting others out. But as with everything there’s a balance. ⁣
⁣
In the show, Ricky Gervais is a depressed widower and takes his pain out on everyone because he wants to die anyways. He pushes everyone away and says things like “I’ve got my own problems”. He questions an old lady who he meets at the graveyard about why he should do something nice for anyone? She counters this back and adds “it doesn’t matter if it makes you happy, what if it makes the other person happy? Happiness it contagious. It doesn’t matter if it is yours or someone else’s.” ⁣

So yes, take care of yourself. But don’t do it at the cost of being a good friend or loved one. It’s okay to take care of yourself and then also take care of someone else. ⁣

🐛🐾🛣 Day 2️⃣4️⃣ of #LegsForMiles with @cyogalife ➡️ #FourCornerPose 🛣🐾🐛 I know I look thrilled to be doing this pose, but don’t be fooled by my cheesy grin — I actually found this one (big surprise) harder than anticipated! You might do this one with your back against a wall if you tend to round your spine a lot in deep hip openers; you could also elevate your hips on a block/blanket for support.

A good warmup for this #asana would include the whole #PigeonPose family of hip openers (#sleepingpigeon, #oneleggedkingpigeonprep, #seatedfigure4, #galavasana prep etc), a couple of openers for your lats like #gomukhasana and #dolphinpose, and some core work to fire up your abdominal wall. Once you’ve worked your way up to progressively deeper external hip rotation, come to a seat, bend your left knee into a half #sukhasana shape, and cradle your right shin in between your elbows in #RockTheBaby. (Cooing sweet nothings to your shin-baby 👶🏻 optional 😜.) Keep your right foot flexed, ankle and knee aligned, to protect your joints, as you use each exhale to close the gap between chest and shin. Continue to lengthen up through the crown of your head during this entire process —- as I mentioned, exaggerated spinal flexion (aka rounding/turtling) is an easy misalignment trap to fall into as we work our way into deep hip openers. Once you’re in as far as you can safely go, hook your shin into the crooks of your elbows, forearms parallel, fingers pointing up; leave your right ankle tucked into your left elbow, and carefully unthread your right arm, reaching it up and overhead. Bend your right elbow and walk your hand down towards your left shoulder, and either hook your fingers together or use a strap to make that connection. There should be no sensation in your right knee joint — if there is, back off a step and only take this as far as feels sustainable and safe!

Happy Sunday lovies! This morning I woke up right on time for hot yoga, and then my moon cycle said skkkkkrt not today sucka. In the past I might have beat myself up for laying in bed and tending to my discomfort instead of being at class like I said I would, but I'm over that.

Guilt is a thing that only exists when you hold on to the past. When you live life freely in the moment, there's no need for obligation or plans. You make your choices and you move forward. You deal with the real. So whether you spend your day honoring the sacred, or deep in an ass trench in the couch watching basketball game after basketball game, let that smile shine baby! Enjoy your life and stop worrying about what it all means, just simply be whoever the fuck you are inside cause that person is 🔥🔥🔥
